Post-Rock

For all you Post-Rock fans out there you will know that there is a huge and diverse range out in the world. I enjoy almost all of it with the exceptions of some miss-labelled bands who are crap in both genres any (cough* MOGWAI, DO MAY SAY THINK). But for some unknown reason, even unknown to me, i want to expunge my knowledge of post-rock and break bands up into subsets of the epic genre to better classify these bands.

All criticism is welcomed. (related to the categorising Eddie).

Upper Echelon-
Bands who redefine post-rock, the bands that produce the most thought provoking music ever made.

1. Godspeed You! Black Emperor, clearly the best and most amazing.
2. Sigur Ros, take the genre and push the gentle genre beyond its boundaries.
3. Fly Pan Am, band that takes you on an uncontrollable ride.

Middle Echelon-
Bands who are very similar to the lower section but do the same thing only better.

If These Trees Could Talk
La Verite
Mono
This Will Destroy You
Yndi Halda

Lower Echelon-
Bands who perform the genre to there own extents of melody and climax, amazing but still not anywhere near the Upper area. Bulk of Post-Rock bands fall into this section.

As The Poets Affirm
Because Of Ghosts
Caspian
Collapse Under The Empire
The Evpatoria Report
Explosions In The Sky
God Is An Astronaut
Hangedup
Joy Wants Eternity
pg.Lost
Pie Are Squared
Red Sparrowes
A Silver Mt Zion
65daysofstatic
Ect.

  2. so its not really categorising, just rating bands without taking into account the style of post-rock they play...
